Join Owner Trained Service Dogs. A group that can help you (a person with a disability), train a dog to help you in every day life.
Any person who is disabled under the standards of the ADA and who is qualified for the protection of the ADA has the right to public access with a service animal that is individually trained to do work and/or perform tasks that are of benefit to that person and that serve to mitigate the impairment on which the disability is based.
There are many tasks that dogs can be trained to perform that qualify the dogs as service dogs under federal law. Many programs that provide service dogs have long waiting lists, are out of state, or charge too much money. There are more owner trained service dogs in the United States than the service dogs from all of the programs combined.
Assistance Dogs of America provides certifications for owner trained service dogs who meet all requirements established by law.
